Kurdish Forces Suffer Casualties in Strikes Near Erbil Airport

(MENAFN) A Kurdish security officer was killed and another injured in strikes near Erbil Airport in Iraq, according to a Kurdish official.

Omed Khoshnaw, the governor of Erbil, reported that Walatt Taher, 32, a member of the Asayish (Kurdish security forces) stationed at the airport, was killed during overnight attacks, while another security member sustained injuries.

Witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions late Saturday in the city, according to journalists in the area.

Since Feb. 28, Iran has launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military facilities. Some of these attacks have caused casualties and damaged civilian infrastructure, including ports and residential buildings.

Tehran has stated that these strikes are in retaliation for a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran that has killed hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.
